Aela is 20 year old woman. She's fairly tall, and in exceptional physical condition - strong and agile. She has fair skin, long dark hair and hazel eyes. She alternates between wearing a chain mail and studded leather armor, and carries two fencing swords; on her left hip she carries a sword of standard Ambrian make, and on her back she carries another sword of a foreign, disturbing design.
Aela is perhaps, above all, physically impressive. She is very strong, has exceptional reflexes and does not give up easily.
She is, however, quite loud and clumsy, and not particularly good at throwing things or using a bow.
Aela was born the same year the Dark Lords were defeated - year 0. She has an elder brother (born -2) and a younger sister (born 7). Her father and mother were not fighting in the war, but both her mother's parents were veteran soldiers - her grandfather as a warrior and her grandmother as a mystic.
During the war, Aela's grandfather looted a dark blade from a fallen enemy, and his wife researched how to use it effectively. They named the blade Renegade, as it was now used to slay the creatures that previously wielded it.
While Aela grew up, she was always more interested in her grandparents' tales of the old war than her parents' much more mundane chores. She trained with swords and armor, and on her sixteenth birthday she was secretly given Revenant by her grandfather, and during the following months she was taught the ability to enhance its power by her grandmother.
In the year 17, Aela's family decided to cross the Titans and move to Ambria. Aela herself decided to stay with her grandparents, who had retired from the army after the war, living off money and treasure earned and looted during the war. Recently, her grandmother (accutely aware that she was on the verge of becoming an abomination, although she never told anyone but her husband this), convinced Aela to leave them and move north.
Quite reluctant to leave her grandparents, but even more reluctant to disobey them, Aela decided to join any group crossing the mountains. She has been taught by her well travelled grandparents to not look down on either barbarians or even the elder races, and is happy to travel in the company of anyone that can pull their weight.
She is not particularly keen on finding her very boring parents or obnoxious brother - although she misses her little sister dearly. She will find any means of paying her upkeep, and between the arms training her grandfather gave her, the blade and the dark power to use with it that her grandmother taught her, she is fairly sure she can make her way as a sellsword or treasure hunter.
Headstrong and proud, but not stupidly stubborn. She wants to do what's right, but is not above letting the means justify the ends. While confident, she is also aware of her inexperience, and is not shy of backing out of a situation that seems too dangerous.
She is curious and open and has no particular bias against other people except, of course, the Dark Lords and their servants.
